Is there a way of checking the CDI on a 1986 Honda 350 fourtrax at home? Thanks for any help.

Checking CDI boxes have always been a rub. They are expensive, most dealers say they can't check them, and owners usually wind up replacing them with a "known good part" for a diagnosis.

I have never ran across a way of checking them myself.

Someone has installed a 2 pole key switch and now it will crank but no fire. It ran until the switch was installed.

It wouldn't with just two connections. One of those is hot to the battery and the other is going to the starter solenoid. All it would do is, as you have said, is crank. It would need at least a run connection (and run position in the switch) to energize the cdi box and one to the rectifier to charge the battery through the switch.

Go to Honda & get the right switch... Any CDI ignition needs an open circit to run,, (unless it's a Lawnboy)... The right switch will save it's price in headaches,,,unless the last guy butchered the wires ,, if so ,,now you'll have to re-wire it.... Sorry,, Roger
