Hi, guys.
I'm helping my son build a fairly small metal shed roof (no walls) on the side of his garage. It's just outstide storage to keep tools and wood dry.
He originally planned to use corrugated polycarb panels, but switched to 3-ft metal panels. The actual structure is 9-foot long 2 X 6 rafters attached to a ledger board on the side of the garage. The other end is supported by 4 X 4 posts with a 4 X 4 cross beam. The 2 X 6s are on 20-inch centers and the roof will likely have a 1:10 pitch.
I'm planning to use 1 X 4 furring strips every 24 inches running horizontally across the rafters. I don't plan to use drip caps or anything on the side.
My questions are:
1) will the furring strips provide enough support for the metal roof?
2) do I need to add any additional cross bracing to the 2 X 6s to keep them from warping?
3.) how much overhang should I plan for on all 3 "open" sides?
Thanks!
Angus
