Hello,
I am at the initial stages of correcting my water deficiencies. Water initially tested by the County. Today I had my first estimate by a water treatment company. They also tested the water.
General Info:
Three BR House with two full baths.
Two adults
Source: Well Water
PH: 7.5
Hardness: 5 gpg ( 78 mg/l )
Iron: 0.5
Sulphur: Yes (noted by company reps smell test)
Company rep tested the water, then looked at the proposed install location. A water service flow rate test was NOT conducted.
Quote was for:
One DD30T. Not indicated, but I suspect the softener tank and control. Mentioned Autotrol but no model number given.
One ASFE8. Again, I suspect the Iron removal tank. Autotrol?
One Salt Tank. No other info given.
$3800 with lifetime warranty and free lifetime service.
Is this worth pursuing or should I keep looking?
Thanks.

You don't need a seperate iron filter. A water softener will remove the iron which is low. The sulfur can not be removed with a softener. You will need carbon, aeration or greensand. I like the carbon the best. Depending on the amount of sulfur, you may need a chlorinator as well. The chlorinator will make sure the water has no bacteria. Follow that with the carbon and then the softener. Autotrol is a good valve, but I think a Fleck 5600 will give you longer life of the equipment.

Hi Biermech,
Thank you for the reply.
That is good news on the softener removing low iron. That should save a good bit of money.
As to the sulphur, we never noticed it. Possibly another item we don't need.
I have been doing a whole lot reading today. Better educated now and know what question to ask of the next company rep.
Other than price, do you know of any disadvantages of using Potassium Chloride over Sodium Chloride regeneration agent? We are considering PC since we utilize a septic tank.

The sulfer will make the water smell like rottens eggs. If you have sulfer, you'll know it. As far as the salt vs. PC, the septic won;t know the difference. I've had thousands of customers use softeners with salt on a septic with no problem.
