I'm looking for a solution to save energy with a programmable thermostat. I have a two story house with two air conditioners. One for the main floor and one for the second floor. We are planning to set both thermostats to raise the temperature during the peak times during the day. My wife stays at home during the day so programming the temperature to go up higher when we are both gone doesn't really work. I'm hoping I can come up with a solution where when she leaves she can hit a button for each thermostat to put it in away mode and raise the temperature settings and then back into regular programming when she returns. Will any of the products here work? I don't want to use remote thermostats, just want to control the thermostats remotely. Please help... Thanks

What you desire is easily done but your comfort may suffer. Generally speaking you are better served by keeping the thermostat at a constant setting when in cooling mode. The reason is that unlike a heating system which is often severely oversized a cooling system is usually designed to operate at a fairly close temperature range. Also, when you stop the A/C (by raising the thermostat setpoint) you lose the dehumidification function and this will often allow the humidity to rise to an intolerable level quite rapidly.

The Robertshaw 300 series have the ability to switch from a "day" setting to a "night" setting from a separate switch. You would have to determine the correct thermostat for your heating/cooling system
