I live in north central Indiana and have two young sycamores, too close together, the smaller of which I'd like to transplant. I've done some reading, but these are cool trees and I'd hate to screw this up.
I've read that I should transplant it in the spring - after the last hard frost. Is that correct?
If so, should I root prune it this fall? Also, the trunk diameter is about 1 1/2 to 2 inches and it's about 10-12 feet tall. How far out should I dig to root prune? When I dig it up in spring, do I dig 2 feet out? How deep?
