I have a 1983 1200 Sportster that has after market forward controls. I would like to move them back to a more stock position. How do I go about doing this and do I need to buy different controls?

Forward control footpegs/controls don't mount the same as stock pegs.
First things you will need are a set of stock footpegs AND stock brake and shifter.
Once these are acquired the rest is pretty much self explanatory.
remove the forward controls
install the stock set, enjoy your ride...
Keep the forward controls, you may want to change them back somday..
