Water Softeners and Air Filtration Systems - Resin in Softened Water

I have a Culligan Estate 2 with Super S iron filter, about 9 years old on a private well. Over the last year I noticed a slow drop in water pressure and recently started getting resin in my water. Are these related and what can I do to stop the resin from passing through? I've tried to email Culligan but they have not responded and having lost my job 10 months ago I am hoping this is a problem I can fix myself. Appreciate any response.

It sounds to me that the distributor tube is broken. The resin is packing down causing a lot of pressure on the distributor tube.

Sure. It's not that hard depending on the model. You need to check the resin. Get a sample and squeeze between you thumb and fore finger. If it smaches up, it's bad. A pic would help.

The resin seems OK but since my water is not nearly as soft as it used to be I intend to replace the resin at the same time. How to I replace the distributor tube and where can these be purchased? It appears Culligan only wants to sell systems and service. They don't offer the parts.

I'm not sure what size your distributor tube is. You may be forced to get it from Culligan. You can remove the head and measure the inside and outside of the tube but you are taking a chance of getting the wrong tube.

I have a similar problem. I bought a Fleck 5600 system about a year ago and installed while constructing a new house. I finally got around to setting it up 2 weekends ago, the water pressure dropped a little. This weekend I adjusted the pressure valve to increase pressure. After a couple of hours the water pressure dropped to a trickle. I checked the filters at various faucets and found them all to be clogged with resin. I put the system into bypass and cleared the resin from the kitchen, bath and shower filters, however the kitchen and shower faucets continue to trickle, I think due to the spray covers.

A rep at the company from where I purchased the system suggested that the resin may have dried out or that possibly the basket at the bottom of the distribution tube is cracked.

My plan is to dump the resin and check the basket. Anyone have any other suggestions. Plus what to do to clear out the spray heads and should I be worried about the laundry, hot water tank, toilet supply lines being clogged?

Resin can get into anything that the water passes through. Toilets and sprayers are a real pain to get cleared. Try to clear the line at the closest point to discharge point. I would replace the distributor tube along with the resin and underbedding.
