I need a simple table with one shelf. Nothing fancy. It will complete the L with my already existing "desk". I have a wonderful oak table as the base. It's not in the greatest shape but the legs are fine and strong--I've laid a 30x80 unfinished door on top and it's my desk. Now I want to add the L part with a piece of wood for the top, another for the middle shelf and legs. Can it be so difficult to make?
SOS, please.

Since appearance is not a high priority, purchase ready made legs with a metal thread stock insert and the receiver socket. Screw the receiver socket to the underside of the top, cut the legs to length and then nail or screw wooden supports for the shelf to the legs. Then cut and install the shelf.
