We just installed a new water heater (gas) and we've tried a bunch of different joint compounds and nothing seems to work - there are still small drops that are coming out of the cold and hot water valves at the top. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you talking about threaded ball valves? Or the unions on top of the wh? Not sure what you're trying to do but the unions need gaskets. Try using teflon tape if it's a threaded joint.

The teflon tape is what did it. Thanks.

dlw24, you didn't put a shut off valve on the hot water outlet, did you??
IF so, get rid of it.
