I have a Black & Decker P37-03 and the saw blade is skidding on the shaft. The shaft is turning with the motor but it looks to me as if the retaining flange doesn't screw down tight enough to grip the blade. Anyone else experience this??? Thanks
:)

Tighten the bolt which holds the blade to the motor shaft. You will need to hold the blade so it does not turn while you tighten the bolt. Us a large nail or screw driver to hold the blade. DO NOT try to hold the blade with your hand. Your saw may possibly have a "jamming" button which, when depressed, holds the motor shaft so it will not turn.

Thanks Wirepuller38, but I have tightened the nut as much as possible. It is as if the blade is too thin, even when fully tightened the flange does not make sufficient contact with the blade to squeeze it and keep it turning under load. One suggestion from another site was to put a spring washer between the flange and the blade.

It sounds to me like the bolt is bottoming out before it gets tight enough. Try a slightly shorter bolt.

How many blades have you tried? At retail you'll find slight differences in blade thickness.

Has this saw always been like this or is it a new development? Are the threads on the bolts as well as within the shaft ok?Examine them to see if maybe there's some thread damage keeping the bolt from fully bottoming.

Be certain you haven't lost a part such as a washer etc.Try to locate a diagram of the saw. Also some cities have an actual Black and Decker service center. You might get some info from them or possibly online at B&D's web site.

Thanks, I haven't tried another blade yet - this one used to be fine and the problem has only developed over time. The bolt is fine with no sign of thread damage. I've compared the parts against the exploded parts diagram that came with the manual and everything seems to be there. I'll try adding another washer to see if that will do the trick and let you know how it goes. Thanks again for all the advice.
