When you push the gas it doesn't go anywhere. The engine revs, but nothing. It was being drivin around the yard and then they let it roll backwards down a hill and then the gas stopped working. Any ideas?

Does the engine run? I'm not sure what you mean by "gas stopped working". If the engine runs, has the chain broken? It is also possible that the clutch has broken a shoe. You may have also sheered the key.

what kind is it? (honda, suzuki, kawasaki) the pulley on the centrifical force clutch could have stuck and won`t catch.
as the motor revs the clutch spins tighter allowing the belt to ride farther out making a larger wheel to turn on making you go faster changing the gear ratio. or as the fellow below said a woodruff key could have sheared off.
