I have a mercury 650 cylinder outboard motor. It cranks fine but only gets spark when the ignition is turned from crank to run and the flywheel is still rotating til it stops. all the wires test good for continuity, the distributor is new, what could be the problem?

Check for power coming out of your key switch. I would guess the mag. is getting power from the start circuit but not the run circuit. I think it might have a M for magneto and a I for the run circuit on the back of the key switch.

Another thing it might be is a kill switch.
