Newbie here. Have a ADT Smartwatch Pro 3000 non-alphanumeric alarm panel. The reciever is a 5881en. I think I have a bad window sensor (5816)...tried replacing the battery and cleaning the magnet but still won't beep when opening or closing the window (most of the time...once in a while it works). So...I ordered a new 5816 transmitter. I can get into programming mode...and tried to follow the directions in the installation manual for a Vista 20p but the keypresses don't seem to match up with the manual (I can't see the prompts...just have numbers on my panel). I'm guessing I have to go into the zone and replace the serial number...but after about 30 tries (unplugging the power after each mess up) I'm a little lost. When I go into say zone 10...this is what comes up on my panel when I hit the * button...can anyone tell me where I would put in the new serial number? Or do I have to somehow delete the zone first? I enter: 6321-800 *56 (there doesn't seem to be a "Set to confirm" as the manual states) Type 10 for the zone number and hit * - Screen shows 10 Hit * - Screen shows 10 again (I'm guessing summary) hit * - Screen shows 03 (Zone type?) hit * - Screen blank (supposed to be Partition?) Hit * - Screen shows 10 (Reports?) Hit * - Screen blank (input device?) Hit * - Screen blank (No clue) Hit * - Screen blank (no clue) Hit * - Screen shows 10 (No clue) Hit * - Screen blank (no clue) Hit * - Goes to the next zone Also, once I'm in a zone looking around, how do I exit without saving? I hit 00 and the screen goes blank...*56 doesn't get me out either. I keep powering it off and back on again.

What you are trying to do is even harder than simply adding a new transmitter without the right keypad. First you have to delete the existing serial number, _then_ you have to enroll the new transmitter on the same zone.

Are you _sure_ you don't have any friends or family that have an Ademco style system that has a 6139 or 6160 keypad that you can borrow for an afternoon?

You delete a transmitter by entering 0 for the loop number at the serial number/loop number prompt.

Honestly, it would probably take me a half dozen tries to pull it off blind, and I know the Ademco interface pretty well. Try to find a keypad you can borrow.

Thanks for the reply. Don't have anyone that has a keypad. If I just buy one off ebay, is it pretty easy for a newbie to hook up? Figure it might help with future problems if I just buy one now.

Get into programming

*58

Next hit * then the zone number that needs to be deleted

example *10

* 00 * 1

now for the new sensor

enter the zone number

example 10

* 03 (or zone type) then *

Now trip the sensor you want to install twice. two series of beeps

* 00

* 99

Then mount sensor & test

Thanks a million for this. I'm much closer now...but something's not right. I'm able to delete the zone and everything seems fine until these lines

Get into programming

Now trip the sensor you want to install twice. two series of beeps - First trip does 2 beeps, 2nd trip does 3 beeps

* 00 - after pushing *, the display shows 11 like it's already moving to zone 11. After pushing 00, the display shows 00

* 99 - Screen goes blank...I need to hit *99 again to get the panel back to normal operation

Then mount sensor & test

After this, the sensor doesn't work...nothing when I open the window...but when I trip it by opening the top, the panel beeps 3 times. So the serial is in there...but there's just something that's missing. I know it's difficult helping a newbie on a blind panel but I'm soooo close...any additional help would be greatly appreciated.

Yep I forgot a * and I realize you are tripping the tamper switch to enroll (opening cover) which is why it chimes only when you open the cover afterwards.

start by deleting that sensor again.

After you trip the sensor (by using the magnet) and the 2nd series of beeps press * 00 *

* 99

You could also type in the serial number followed by *2*00**99 instead of tripping the sensor

either way take your time and press each button carefully!!
