I need to spray bleach onto a metal shed to get moss off it, but my two pump sprayers, one for staining with paint, and the other for insecticide both say not to use the sprayer for caustics like bleach. Why not? It might damage the hose, etc...??
Shouldn't diluted bleach (1:1) be ok? Beer 4U2

I admit it's been 30+ yrs since I've read the instructions that come with a pump up garden sprayer but I use the same one for spraying bleach/water solution, insecticide and weed killer. I normally use a 50/50 bleach solution and I've never noticed any ill effects to the sprayer. It is a good idea to rinse out the sprayer when done!

Bleach can and will effect any seals and other rubber parts of a sprayer.Cleaning the sprayer well after use will slow this process and a one time use probably will not significantly effect it but yes do clean it well, take it apart and clean it that way not just running water behind the bleach.
Also I must comment that you should never use the same sprayer for herbicides and insecticides as herbicides especially will contaminate a sprayer to a point that is very difficult to counteract and may cause damage to plants sprayed later with insecticide.
I would also not use a sprayer that had been used with bleach on plants for the same reason.
The best choice of sprayer is the staining/deck version as the nozzles will be more suited for cleaning use.Be prepared for the sprayer not to last but so long afterwords and clean it best as you can.

Ya, I probably should have explained that the insecticide I use is for spraying around the house/barn foundation, etc. and not for spraying any type of plants.
