I have owned my acreage for about 12 years and have been mulching the ~2 acres of grass since the start. Over the years I have adjusted my spring de-thatch to be more aggressive and leave the grass at least 3 inches in length to keep it nice and green. I do not water as temperatures rarely go very high in our rather dry climate @ 3600ft and watering for this large an area can be expensive here.

My problem is that I have an area of grass that has been getting more brown and thin over the past three years (perhaps 80ft by 40ft). I mulch with my JD tractor and now have been pulling a drum aerator (weighs ~600lbs full of water) that seems to be making the grass greener everywhere else except this brown area… this aerator only slices 4 inch groves into the soil not a "plug model" so I've been using it weekly (maybe every second cut) and now in my second year of this process.

This year I incorporated a liquid fertilizer (first time ever) and applied as my local farm store suggested (applied twice 4 weeks apart) . Not convinced it made a difference in color but it sure made the grass grow faster. This did not affect the brownish area at all, same color but growth enhanced.
Is it possible that this area may be somewhat acidic due to spring snow melt that hangs around for weeks on end before the ground unthaws and moves the water out. This is the only anomaly that follows this area that I can see.

Any comments are appreciated,
