i recently purchased a: SS-04-1202
HP-300FX High Output Solar Pump Kit 12V- the pump that was sent with this unit is VERY WEAK (pump hose length no longer then 3'...the solar 'plate' is 17 W...my question is, how strong of a pump can i purchase and still have the 17 W run the pump efficient. Beer 4U2

You did not provide a brand name but I looked at one online matching your description. The advertisement says up to 80 gph and up to 4-5ft. head. Even under the best circumstances that is a very small, weak pump. The add I saw mentions 15 watts for the peak output of the solar panel, you will get less the further north you are located and if it is not perfectly perpendicullar to the sun or hazy, cloudy you will get even less. That is not very much power when you are trying to pump water.
