My slomins motion detector falsed twice last week. It seems to be working fine when I test it manually. According to slomins, there is no benefit to changing it (its 10 years old) as it appears to be working and motion detector technology has not changed at all in 10 years. What can I do in a situation like this? Thanks.

Other than the obvious of checking the wiring connections, check the condition of the power supply and backup battery in the alarm system it's attached to. Often when the battery starts failing, powered devices like motions can be tripped (remember, loss of power makes the motion's relay drop open). Sometimes it's not the motion, it's the alarm that's failing.

Check to see if there has been any environmental changes. A change in your HVAC configuration can provide issues. A change in pets can provide false trips, etc.

In point of fact, however, there have been a _lot_ of changes in motion detector design, there are Dual tech (Pir +Microwave), and several variations in the standard IR detection, as well as basic advances in the internal electronics of the device.
