my old Liftmaster 1245 with the remote sometimes reverses on the way down. the wall control, if held constant, always closes the door when the remote acts up. if tried to tweak the force adjustment. helps sometimes.

a contractor here told me the capacitor in the unit acts up due to the summer heat here in the south west desert. my neighbor said their opener acts up with the heat too.

is that true? does one need to replace the capacitor? i didn't see such a troubleshooting item in the manual.

If your having to hold the button to get door closed, it is more likely an eye sensor problem, does light bulb flash 5 or 6 times when it happens or does it just reverse?

The capacitor only works to start the motor. Once the motor is running the capacitor is completely out of the picture so it is not your culprit. Some electronic components become sensitive to temperature but I wouldn't suspect this. I would lubricate the rollers and all the hinges on your door. Home Depot sells a kit just for this. Also disconnect the door and check for balance. It should be easy to raise and lower and not have hard spots. Lowering a door is the easy job for an opener. I would look for mechanical problems with the door hardware.

Hey Donald and Doorman,

on the back of the motor unit, the green light blinks 4 times, pause, 4 times.

when it reverses i'm usually in my truck and cannot see the green status light on the motor unit.

i didn't think it was the capacitor either. that guy didn't know what he was talking about.

the senors [seem] ok. the green light on each is constant but they are sensitive if any debris is close by them although not breaking light contact.

i'll disconnect it, move it by hand, get the lube kit from HD and see how it goes.

Thx

The LED light blinking 4 times is an eye sensor problem , see here Liftmaster Garage Door Opener Trouble Shooting---Bearcat Company (http://www.bearcatco.com/helpgifs/liftmaster_troubleshooting.html)
IR sensor slightly misaligned (dim or flashing sensor LED)

I've often heard the heat/humidity affects the safety beam wiring. If you have door bell wire, you can try replacing your beam wiring. You can usually find the wiring at your local hardware store, e.g. Home Depot, True Value, or Lowe's or try online like at Guardian Entry Systems - Home (http://www.guardianentrysystems.com).
