A very simple question, I hope. I believe, from earlier posts on this site (thank you), that the igniter element has gone out on the above range. When I tried to purchase a replacement, I was told that the above was not the model number - is there any way I can backtrack to get the model number from the above number? (The range is in another county and I'd like to avoid two trips to get it fixed...)
Many thanks

Hello drradon. Welcome to the Gas Appliances topic and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

Since I am unable to determine just how you can make the repair, (replace the part(s) ) without being there, best possible suggestion I can offer, is to go there where the appliance is and purchase the part(s) locally.

Have the model and serial numbers with you, as well as the removed part(s). Possible it's not a sparker (igniter element) problem....???

You didn't mention if the problem is only with one sparker (igniter element) or all of the sparkers (elements).....????

Some stove tops use a glow igniter (element) while some use spark igniters. Not exactly sure what type your appliance has. You're using the term "element" which indicates a glow igniter. But the appliance may have sparking igniter's.

Possible the spark module is defective, if all sparkers fail to operate. Also possible a top burner switch, on the effected burner does not allow a sparker to operate. Module can be defective, if all the burners fail to operate.

Several possibilities. Almost impossible to diagnose with a lack of specific and detailed information provided....

Which is it???

Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be also. They will need the make, model an serial numbers. Appliance parts dealers are an excellent source for original replacement parts. Dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.

"Be sure the electrical power and the gas supply to the appliance is turned off, before attempting any repairs. Always check for gas leaks whenever the appliance is moved and/or a repair includes any connection of a gas part."

Thanks Sharp Advice - sorry I wasn't more clear. I need the igniter for the oven for this range. I take your answer to my specific question as a "no" - I fully expect to go there to fix the stove but was hoping to avoid a trip to simply get the model number, then be told by the parts place it will be available in a week - necessitating a second trip... Trying to minimize the old carbon footprint and all that...

Well there are about a hundred posts out there with the same model number..so I don't think thats the problem. But it is odd that none of the parts suppliers I checked give any info.

I'd probably take the igniter to the store with me and go from there.

Is it cracked..or not glowing brite?

I was finally able to get the model number - although I'd still like to know what the relationship is between the above number - taken off the oven door - and the stove model number. The GE web site is about as useless as useless can be. Maybe it's a liability issue but you'd think they would at least try to help you with parts lists and cross reference numbers.

I haven't torn into it yet, all I know is that the stove top burners work and the oven won't. I suspect that the igniter bar is cracked - I've replaced them before and that seems to be the usual problem. I understand that they are pretty fragile.
