Hi , I am replacing a faulty(brings in false alarms frquently) Napco PIR560 motion sensor with a newer Napco C200AP Adaptive II motion sensor. I chose this replacement sensor because we have a 10 lb cat and maybe getting another. The present sensor is at the top of the stairs, 48" off the floor and is facing down a 3' x 18' hallway to the bedrooms. There is no furniture in the hall way to jump up on and we keep the bedroom doors closed when we go out. I have no problem with the wiring. The new sensor instructions say to mount the unit so that the bottom edge of the sensor is 7' 6" off the floor, I have 8' ceilings. It also states that no pets should be able to get closer than 6' from the unit which is just enough space even if the cat sits under it. My question is if the unit senses the cat directy under it do i use these aluminum sticky strips that came with the unit and block the lower part of the window in the cover? If not what are these stips for? Thanks, Sonnypoc

Yes, that's exactly what those strips are for. It's called "masking". The trick is to only mask as much as you need to while keeping the bulk of the field of view useful.

HI ron, thanks for that info. I fished the instalation only to find the microwave part of the sensor works and the infa red doesn't. It registers motion about only 2to3 feet in front of the sensor. I bought it on line for $38 and most on line stores don't take electronics back. I tried this because it cost about $150 to repace it thru the alarm company. I'm due for a system upgrade in 2 years and i've done without it for one so i have the alarm company replace it when i reup on the contract at no charge ...sonny

Take a close look at your installation, often when someone says a IR motion has a really short range, they've installed it upside down. A lot of these things have a shape that makes you want to invert them.
