My central air unit has contracted a hitch in her giddy-up! We have had no issues with it until this summer. The condenser outside will kick on, as will the inside fan..BUT the inside fan is VERY intermittent. It will run for 30 seconds or so, kick off then back on and continues like this until I get frustrated and turn the whole unit off. When I turn the unit off (not set to cool or heat) but turn the FAN to ON the same thing happens...it runs a few seconds then it shuts off, then back on... you get the idea! The compressor outside continues to run when it is set to COOL since the house has not yet reached the set temperature. Now, we are doing some remodeling and have a few of the intake vents still covered. I think this may be the problem, but the husband says he thinks it is in the wiring. I can deal with the heat, but winter is coming soon and I can NOT deal with the cold! If this problem continues into the winter months, I am finding a hotel! :) Any of you have any ideas what may be causing this issue?

Could be a faulty thermostat could be a fan relay could be a blower motor. Try jumping out r and g on the circuit board of the indoor unit. If it is a bad thermostat the blower will run.

cycle the heat one time see if you get that 30 second run if you do i would concentrate on the motor.in cooling your running hi speed winding, and in heat you run a lo speed winding if the fan runs true the winding is causing the motor to overheat during hi speed/cool.check the motor housing for overheating in cooling.the fan is controlled thru 2 different points with cooling /heating modes the cooling fan is thru the stat, and the heating is thru the fan limit within the furnace or a relay/board on the furnace....depending on age.the condenser outside has no effect on the fan running inside with this problem
