My son rented a small apt w/no AC but he has a small window unit that looks like it might fit in the width of his side-by-side sliding casement window frame if mounted with sides - UP rather than in the normal fashion if there was enough width.
Aside from the condenser drip, is there any reason why he couldn't do this? We cut a piece of plywood to fit and seal above the window unit.
Thanks,
Greynold99

NO...you can't..the compressor will die. Think this way...can you run a refrigerator on its side?

There are Vertical A/C units for vertical mounting in sliding windows.
Do a Google search for vertical window air conditioner and you'll see them.

Thanks guys for the response...
As soon as I read GunGuy's reply I realized that orienting the AC compressor sideways would as a result move all the lubricating oil for the moving parts away from where they need to be.
It was just a thought...
I'll take a look for narrow - casement mount window units.
Thanks,
Gary
