How old is the aluminum? how much has it weathered?

Aluminum paints well with latex house paint but it must be clean. Older, weathered aluminum tends to be chalky and since paint won't adhere well to chalk - it must be cleaned. If/when it isn't feasable to remove ALL the chalk, add emulsa bond to the 1st coat of latex paint.

Spraying may look a little better but it's ok to use a brush.
