Kitchen Gas Appliances - no gas pressure

tried to light my water heater , no gas pressure.
what happened is i changed the shut off valve @ the water heater and in doing so i had to shut the gas off at the meter .
now i get no gas pressure.
thanks for any advice......

Not mentioned in your initial post....:confused:

Is the new gas valve turned ON?

If yes to both questions above. Gas turned back on at meter and at the new valve, then it is possible gas is passing through the line and through to the pilot assembly.

That requires some time for the pilot to light. Holding gas control valve in the light position and waiting for gas to arrive is called "Bleeding" the line(s).

Gas likely coming to through. Hold red button on water heater control down and wait. Gas will arrive at pilot assemble if gas is on at meter and new isolation valve.

BTW:
When you turned gas off at meter, you also cut off gas to every other gas appliance (if there are any other gas appliances) in the home....:eek: It's was not gas pressure that was effected when meter turned off. Only gas supply.

It could also be an earthquake valve that was tripped, shutting off the gas. They can be quite sensitive and it might have tripped while shutting off the gas.

Was it the water shut off valve, or gas shut off valve that you replaced? If the latter, then it may take several minutes of holding down the red pilot button, before that entire pipe refills with gas.
