When recently moving into our new home, we found our 11 month old, queen-sized mattress foundation (boxspring) too large to get upstairs. Oh the mattress made it just fine (with a little bending). Yet, the boxspring proved slightly (2 inches) too wide and inflexible. QUESTION: Is it possible to cut the wooden foundation and mend afterward?

Assuming you have exhausted all possibilities like removing the door from its hinges or taking out the window, it shold be possible to alter the frame in some manner to get it into the room. My first guess, since you only need 2" would be to remove whatever fasteners hold the corners together so that you can decrease the width enough to get through the door. Failing that, you would need to cut the end support pieces in a place that you could later attach a gusset to hold them together. Plan the cut location carefully so that you can screw a long piece of hardwood on and not interfere with the springs or metal support frame. Do this knowing that it will need to be done again to get the frame back out of the house eventually. Hope you haven't been loosing sleep over this one!
