I recently purchased a new Honeywell RTH7500D programable thermostat to replace my Robertshaw Rotory type. I am having trouble hooking it up correctly. My original thermostat used 4 wires connected to the following on the Robertshaw:
Red- Rc jumped with R
Green - G
White - O
Yellow - This one is stripped extra and connected to both Y and W.
There is a blue wire but is was capped off and not used with the Robertshaw.

Now my new Honeywell has the following:

o C o W2/Aux
o G o Y2/E
o Y
o O/B/W
o Rc
o R

Now when I hooked it up the first time I did:
Red-Rc
White - O/B/W
Green - G
Yellow - Y

This caused only the heat to come on when the thermostat kicked on the cool mode.

Then I was told by Home Depot that I should try to put a jumper on Aux & E and hook everything up the same. When I did this the air would kick on at the temperature set to cool but would only come out luke warm, no longer heat like before but not cold. The compressor was on outside so I am not sure if both the heat and A/C were on at the same time?

I have a unit on the ground outside, and there is a unit up in my attic. (heat pump I presume?)

Sorry for the long post, but any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

*edit* Sorry I just noticed there is a section for thermostat, so if a mod would like to move this I would appreciate it. I apologize again.

the power wire ,RED, from the air handler is Rc(cooling) and also jumped to Rh(heating) this is done on yours with that small metal clip under the Rc designation terminal. The green is the fan wire, the white wire (in your case) is the O wire(reversing valve) used for cooling (in most cases when heating is the primary concern). Yellow wire to Y on the stat.
You should read the instructions on the new stat. Many of the new stats are adaptable to many different units depending on what they are used for...
If its luke warm, I suspect the heating and cooling are operating at the same time because you didn't program the setup as instucted on the instructions.....Not good! You have to set up that thermostat with codes...read the installer setup.
I just looked up your stat online and yes it must be programmed for use, see page 30 step 11 installer setup#0170 setting should be #2
See page 32 installer setup #0190 should be zero
place the different stickers that came with it for heat pump on the thermostat as shown on the instructions.

thank your for the input. i Have set it like described and programmed the thermostat appropriately. Now when it turns on cool the compressor unit outside the house does not turn on, so it seems that only the fan is running. Any ideas on that/

I have it figured out. Thank you it was all in the settings on the unit.
