We recently (3 mos) signed up for Brinks Home Security. Before we signed up we asked the sales rep what happens when we replace our existing windows, in other words, should we wait to sign up until the windows are in. We were assured that if we paid the $5/month service contract, Brinks would come out after the windows were installed and reinstall the sensors as necessary.

Of Course THAT WAS A LIE! - Brinks wants $85/per sensor plus the labor to install!!!! These sensors are available on-line at just over a dollar apiece! Needless to say I am extremely unhappy with Brinks and would like to do the work myself.

Does anyone know if there are anything special about the wiring I should know before I attempt this? The system is run with 4-wire 22 ga. wire, although the sensors only have a black and red wire to them. I already have the control box and battery disconnected, as well as the phone line.

A window contact is just a magnet activated switch. Hook em up, attach them to the window frame, line up and mount the magnet. Heck, you didn't actually need to power the system down.
