I am working on the design of a horse barn and am not sure I found the right forum to open a discussion. The barn will be 36x48 enclosed with an 8ft run in shed on one side and an 8 foot porch roof on the other. It will have a 12ft center aisle with a loft overhead on each side of the aisle. The aisle will be open to the roof. Have questions on bracing, rafter spacing, and how the rafter attachment.
I'll ask more specifics when I find the right forum.
Thanks,

A little of topic but definitley related ... Our first issue at hand is the water line from our meter to our house. A straight line between these two two points passes right through the excavation site where it looks like we will need to remove 2ft of dirt from the top of the hill and spread it out. I don't know where the water line runs and the guy that came to locate it said it converts to plastic about 5ft from the meter. Should I run a new line so I know where it goes? Does anyone have any idea what I should do? The distance from the meter to the house is 600 ft. I will also need to know its location to tie into the water for the barn. Anybody got a great idea on this?

Going to enclose a 36x48 ft area with 8ft run in sheds on each side. Planning on putting post 3ft in the ground should I go 4ft? I'll have 3" of gravel and 5" of concrete on the ground when everything is done. So the posts would be 3ft plus the 8" below the finished floor height? Is this enough?
The enclosed sidewall height is about 13'. The sidewall height at the shed is 10.5'. Any help would be appreciated.
