Air Conditioning - It is HOT in Here!! HELP

I have a rheem air condition unit that is extremely old. A repair guy came out today and told me that my switch needed to be replaced. He said that he could fix it in the morning and that it would probably cost over $300.00. said that wires were melted on side of switch box. After he left i checked it out and could find no melted wires. the outside unit will come on but no air will come out inside. is this something that i can go buy or maybe take apart and see if the wires need to be secure. please help

Switch makes no sense. Is this a window A/c? More details are needed..sorry. And No pro here..but I have to go.

this is central ac. i have pulled the switch box out to check out the wires. some of them do look to have what looks like they may have gotten a little hot but don't understand what this has to do with the switch box. just wondering if it is the switch box can i go and buy one myself or do i have to rely on this man for one. of course have to do something it is sooo hot in here,. also this furnace is a rheem ac central air and it is so freaking old. i think the guy said 30 years old,. thanks for any help in this matter,

Not sure what you are referring to as the "switch" can you post a pic?

I read this a few times.

Maybe talking about an indoor fan relay. Rheem likes lower speed fan for heat higher for cool.

$300 bucks..another service call...

Makes me think, it's hot, my house is cool, tell him something, something to do tomorrow, yeah, just tell him this and charge some time.

Call someone else, or get down and dirty with us. But, with us you will need knowledge pertaining to electrical work, a good electricl meter, and time.

Granda, Where is the switch box ? inside of your house? attic ? outside ?
