I need tips on how to unscrew the old chuck. I removed the left hand screw from the interior but can't hold the shaft while trying to unscrew the chuck.

Chuck an allen wrench into the jaws and smack it with a hammer.

The few times I've done it..a few raps on the end of the chuck with a mallet drops it right off.

Hold the drill by the chuck a few inches above a cushioned surface (pillow or folded blanket) rap it a couple of times right on the end of the chuck (open it completely, don't smack the jaws)..the drill should fall onto the cushion. Did for me.

Oops..didn't read well...the chuck isn't screwed on normally..the drill has a tapered shaft at least the couple I had to do did.
