I'm buying a house and the garage door only opens to about 6'2". There is a steel I-beam that goes across and the arm from the opener to the door just barely clears it. Is there a way to extend that arm or can I cut a notch into the beam? The beam seems like overkill in the garage, but I don't want the garage to collapse! :wall:
As it sits now I can't pull in my Honda CR-V with bike rack so I'm hoping I can fix it somehow. I tried to take a pic with digital camera, but it came out very distorted so I think that is broken now!
I hope I explained it well enough.

I'm not getting a good picture of what you have..sorry.
But NO, you probably can't cut or notch the steel beam. Normally the only reason for it is because they needed the strength in that section of the home. Altering it could be a very costly and dangerous mistake.
Heres the big question...will the garage door open any further by hand, when it is disconnected from the opener?
Do you have a sectional door or a one piece swing up style?
