Hello,
I have a ~10 yr old GE Super Radio (portable) that I left out on the deck and it got soaked. I took the batteries out and sat it front of dehumidifier for about 24 hours. I put batteries back in and nothing not even a hiss or pop or anything. Pulled the batteries out and tried the AC plug in and same thing....not a sound (good or bad).
Anyway is there anything that can be done for this unit? It always sounded so great I hate to give up on it. Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks! FF

Hi Fairway, nothing I can suggest now that power has been applied. You can look for fuses, but component level repairs would be difficult. For you and others reading this, next time a piece of electronic equipment gets wet, as you did, remove all power and wait a month. Well maybe not that long, but really long. See, the water doesn't hurt the electronics, it's when the power is applied and there is any trace of water left that the damage can be done. So the longer you can wait, the better.
Probably time for a new one

Absolutely agree with Bud. We had radios that fell or were dunked in salt water. Stripped down (us, not the radios), opened up the radios as completely as possible, got in the showers and rinsed those babies out completely. Blow 'em out with dry compressed air then put 'em in a warm dry area for a couple of days. Never had one that didn't work after.
Of course much harder to do with newer glued and heat welded together radios...but they need to be open to the air for several days. Moisture contained within does not just magically go away.

Thanks for the replies. I thought maybe 24 hrs in front of the dehumidifier was adequate. Da_m!
Also - Where I work - We have a very extensive electronics department where we will build custom boards, remote A/V and robotics etc. is there something they can troubleshoot?
I'd like to buy another but the only thing I can find is an RCA (though it looks the same). My dad worked at GE for 37 years so I'm partial.
Anyone know where I can find a GE SuperRadio?
Thanks. FF

The RCA one will be the same. At the time they were made, GE and RCA were made by the same parent company.
