I have a bookcase I'd like to place in front of a return air register. I want to know how far out from the wall I'd need to put the bookcase to provide adequate airflow to the return air.
The duct is 12" round (113 sq in). The filter door register opening is 29x13 (377 sq in).
Do I need to calculate the sq inches of the unblocked filter or the duct?
If I move the bookcase out 3" from the wall, this would give about 255 sq in for air flow to the register.
Haven't done this before, so I appreciate the help.
