I have used my garden soil for the past 10 years. It has been added to, mulch, compost, grass, and various additives over the years. For whatever the reason this year, my crops have been very small, small fruits and not a real green in color, more a pale green, not a dark color.
I know this is like finding a needle in a haystack but, one thing I have noticed in great quantity is pill bugs. Thousands of them! Could they in anyway contribute to the size of fruits and color of plants? (Almost dwarf in size)
Thank you
Curious

You haven't indicated what part of the country you live in, but it has been an exceptionally poor year for a lot of crops - lots of moisture in some places, but not enough heat or sunlight, and in others, not enough heat, sun or rain... Then there are places with too much rain... :wall:
Pill bugs can be an indicator of excess moisture and/or cooler soil conditions, both can contribute adversely to plant (crop) production
Here in Ontario, corn is very slow, many berries were big, but not sweet, and tomatoes are small and very slow to ripen..
Mother Nature can be cruel at times!

If you haven't done so lateley, take several samples of your soil and let your local cooperative extension service test them. This will give you a good analysis of what the soil needs as far as fertilizer breakdown, lime, etc.
Like Howiek said, it has not been a great year for fruit, our corn is small, beans are doing fine, broccoli was sparse. We just take it in stride and hope for a better year next year.

Thank you very much. Sorry about the delay, I liked to never got back on here. Anyway, we live in the Ohio Valley. I agrree this year has been unusual, however I feel like I'm invaded by these bugs. I will get an analysis of the soil and go from there.
Again, thank you and hope you have a nice summer what's left.
