Am looking to purchase a 12" compound miter saw - crown molding & floor baseboard work [approx 300 ft total]. Have seen several web sites regarding miter saws. Have narrowed choices down to Makita LS 1221 & DeWalt DW715. Thought I would check up with those who have used these. Any opinion on these 2 machines is greatly appreciated.
Also any recommendations on miter saw stands.
Thanks.

Can't vouch for the Makita or Dewalt, but I recently bought a 12" Rigid from HD that I'm very happy with (especially since it had a $100 mark-down on it :D).

TG, did you get the one with the motor set on top??? Bought the same one with the discount.
Zoo, One thing you need to look out for in order to be all-encompassing is a dislocated motor so you can double bevel and so the motor won't be in your way when you cut through 7" speed base.
I have a Bosch and have been using it for over 12 years without a problem. UNTIL, I saw the Ridgid. My main complaint was not being able to cut through 7" speedbase vertically. Now I can. Retired the Bosch to the shop. Put the Ridgid on the gurney and in the jobsite trailer.
Dewalt is nice...pricey. Don't see the added value for the money, but it is an excellent saw! Makita likewise. Although I have never had experience with either.

Just an update to let everyone know. Maybe not too late for you to do the same thing I did.
Visited Big Orange Box this AM. Saw that the Makita LS 1013 FL was on clearance. Had floor display & 1 other in box underneath display. Original price $399.00 - clearance $199.00. Went home & checked out on-line reviews for this saw vs. the Dewalt DW716. Most ratings had both well above average & neck-&-neck with each other for value.
Went back to BOB store - only one left was display unit with broken slide control. Asked if other stores had any left. Told that 3 other stores had 3 units each left. Within 15 minutes of leaving 1st store, 2 stores with 3 units had only the display model left. Again both displays, like the first one, were broken. Finally drove 15 miles to another BOB. Eureka, still had 3 units, 2 in the box. Had fun loading box into Honda Accord, but managed to do so.:D
Makita SCMS now in garage waiting to be mounted onto a Ridgid AC9944 cart. Will get saw cart mounted tomorrow & replace standard blade with Forrest 10" CHOPMASTER SAW BLADE- 80T. Will give it a go over the weekend & let everyone know what's happening.

Guess that'll teach you to shop like a woman. "Oh, I'll come back and get that dress later." I'll catch it for saying that, I know. Get it and take it back if you don't like it. Probably spent $25 in fuel. But glad you made a good decision and have a quality tool to do the job with, as well as the gurney. It will make the job easier.

Happy you got the saw for a good price! I was going to post I have a 12" DeWalt I bought at least 10 years ago and it is still running strong. It was hard spending the money but I have never been sorry.
