A buddy of mine told me to remove the prop off the lower unit to fix a problem im having. my boat will kick into drive at idle speed and move at a VERY SLOW pace.. when i give in gas, it just revs up and doesnt move anywhere. I have a 3.0 L 140 horse mercruiser. any suggestions??

While I'm not familiar with that unit, it sounds like the shear pin - sheared. If that is the case, you would need to remove the prop and tap the remains of the shear pin out of the drive shaft. Then you need to get a properly sized replacement from a boat dealer.

In order to remove the prop first bend the tabs on the star washer. Then use a 1 1/16 inch wrench to remove the nut. it will just pull off. Look for balled up rubber kind of like small rabit turds. this is from a spun hub.

If the prop doesn't easily slide off, do not use a pry bar or screwdriver! A special tool called a prop puller may be required. All marinas have 'em.
