I purchased a home from a lady, which for some reason or another will not give us the alarm code she had set. Is there a way to reset this system to clear her code and to choose a new one. I'm not wanting to have the system monitored at this time, just want to be able to turn it on and off.

Not easily without the installer code, which Ranger American keeps fairly close guard on.
First, PK5501 is the _keypad_ model, which works on about 6-8 different DSC alarm panels. Fortunately, they all share a common programming model, so it's less of an issue than it could be. Still, look at the diagram on the door of the metal box where the battery and motherboard are. That will be the sytem model number.
You can _try_ *8 5555. If the panel beeps rapidly and goes into program mode, press # until you exit programming, and we can tell you how to extract the master code.
If not, your only two choices are to default the panel using the hardware method, or pay RA for a service call to do the following specific things:
A - Change the installer code to a code of your choice or back to the factory default of 5555. Be specific that you don't wan't _their_ installer code.
B - Change the master code to a code of your choice.
Do not choose hardware default lightly; it resets _all_ of the settings back to factory default, requiring you to recreate the system settings for your layout, and if RA set the "installer lockout" feature, it _still_ won't change the installer code.
