Hi,
I'm looking to install a vinyl privacy fence myself but I'm confused. Someone told me I don't need to install wood post for that kind of fence is that true? How do they stay up? I looked at the fence and the vinyl post it is hollow.

Depends on the brand....some fit into holes punched into the posts..which requires you to set a post, fit the panel, set the next post, etc.
Others use bracket kits that screw to post and panel. Those you can set all the posts, then fit the panels, more like a regular wood fence.
Some brands use just the hollow post and are strong enough to stand up to most severe weather, others use sleeves over regular 4 x 4 wood posts. You can normally tell just by the size of the vinyl post/sleeve.

Most sections of pvc come in 8 foot lengths. They do if the material is higher end. In case where the posts are solid, non routed with holes for the rail the post does not need but can hold the 4x4 wood inside. This is mostly only the case if the pvc post is a 4 x 4 itself. Using a 4 x 4 wood post inside of a
5x5 PVC post would do nothing to help you out. In fact it may hinder your installation techniques .
In regards to what holds up a pvc fence... Cement . A lot of it.
When it comes to the posts nearest the gate. I would suggest using a steel post, or the use of pouring cement into the post to support the weight of the gate. Do not pour cement into the post unless you have already attached your hinges into their proper places. And make sure the gate posts are absolutely level. Anything less will not work well with the swing of your gate (s).
If you have the type of fence that uses brackets that you need to screw in... keep in mind that you only need 2 inches of post above the top rail of the fence, then a cap. Do not go with more post above the fencing as the more above you have it is obvious you would less post in the ground.
Good luck and feel free to come back with more questions before you jump into it .
