I have remodeled a basement area with suspended ceiling for a home theater/family room with the necessary ceiling cans, remote dimmer switches, kitchenette, sconces, etc. and because I wanted a front projector, chose an ~18% gray wall color with light gray doors and trim (doors and trim yet to be installed). Then the family outvoted me on a front projector and we ended up with a 60 inch plasma and while ~18% gray (Sherwin Williams "Gray Shingle SW7670) walls seemed like a good idea at the time, it may not be the best color even though gray is allegedly a popular and versatile color and the walls are painted.
As a VERY left-brained individual without a single home decorating gene and a person that a former colleague and art teacher said had taste only in his mouth, I am seeking ideas of colors that might be attractive if all of the wall switches and outlets were the medium gray color found in any home building supply store.
What colors would look great or very good with that color of gray outlets and gray wall switches besides gray?? (The carpet has not been purchased).
Suggestions/ideas for this home decor-challenged person/family??
Thanks
MrSpurg

Hi MrSpurg,
Colors are visual definitions and depend a lot of the space, light, style....so can you post a picture of the space?
In order to set an image here follow these easy steps-->
1 - upload your picture to a free online photoalbum like Photobucket or Flickr , for example
2 - Look for the link of your picture (usually, photoalbums provide a "link for a forum" script) --> copy the full URL to the image, (not the page on which the image is located),
3 - Press the 'Insert Image' icon above or type before the URL and after it, ensuring that you do not have any spaces before or after the URL of the image

Fluted columns will flank the bricks where the plasma will hang and fluted columns will also stand under each end of the box beam.
(I STILL have hopes of adding an electrical roll down screen and FP at a later date even if I have to resort to asking for forgiveness instead of permission, otherwise I will feel like Al Bundy;-)
Hope this helps,
Mike

Unfortunately, they will not. :wall: My youngest daughter has one more year at home and will then be in college and my wife would just as soon watch a 13 inch B&W TV with a single 3 inch speaker. It was a battle just to get the 60 inch Kuro, but since the room is wired (electrical, coax, HDMI, cat6) for both a FP and the plasma, it eventually may see an electric roll-down 106 inch screen and a FP in which I ask for forgiveness instead of permission... sigh
sign me Al

Hi MrSpurg,
If you use clear / shinny colors, you will get only "distractions"
I'd work with a blac or dark gray + light wood or a live color
A good idea for HT is the use of panels (acoustic or not) and then use them as theme for the remaining accessories
Something like this

what Patricia said. google image search "ht rooms". to get some ideas. i bet you will be suprised at what you see = good and bad.
i don't know you from ADAM.. but when my wife tells me i can't have something (that i can afford). i go out and buy 2 of them. she no longer tells me i can't have something.
my advice. use the 60 for a while. get the other stuff in order = always keeping in mind that a FP will be installed. then. when the times comes = MAN UP ! and if they don't like it, tell em not to watch it = that many expensive chairs you don't have to buy.
good luck.
