MY problem is if the rear door (goes up to open) of the car is open, garage door (GD) damages rear door (opening or closing). In 5 months GD hit rear car door 3 times, opening and closing GD.Yes we should just look but we both have done it,this time $1,000 to fix door.
Could I add two more senors like the one on the floor of GD(the beam that stops the door from rising) in series. The reason being if rear door is open beam would be interrupted and door would not open or close. Right now if I try and close the GD ,the light blinks 3-4 times if beam is interrupted. This is what I would like to happen if rear car door is open.
One interesting point is the collusion place says he makes a lot of money from this problem.

There's just so much stuff you can legislate. Remembering to close your hatch back is probably one of the ones not on the list. I'm not being hard, but you can look to see if the door is open before hitting the button to close the door, since it has happened more than once.
Yes, you probably can install a sensor in parallel to the ones on the floor, but you would need to have it at a certain place, and park in the same place every time so the door would break the beam. You absolutely cannot defeat the purpose of the ones on the floor.
Easier to look first (and cheaper, too). Good luck with it.

The sensors will prevent the door from closing but will not stop the door from opening. Kids and animals don't get crushed by opening garage doors - just hatch backs.

Big reflective ugly strip across the trunk lid. Move the control panel to near where the car parks..not near the door. Take the remotes out of the cars. Put a blaring buzzer on the trunk lid so it goes off when its open. Back into the garage. Park outside.

Don't think more sensors will work...not sure. But as chandler said..not feasible.

3 times in 5 months..and its cost you a grand now? Maybe the lesson cost enough this time?

Sorry Bob...but you kinda asked for these kinda responses..yes?

Had a customer who wanted us to replace their door panels and kids bike because they kept hitting the button, w/o realising the bike was blocking the door, but not the sensors.

Yes it would be great, if we just looked before closing or opening, but after 3 X time.Yes it is kind off DUMB TOO.But what can be done. The garage is small and car is usually parked in the same spot.Usually with in 6-12 in.
What could I add to stop door from opening and closing.I figured senor at bottom of door would be in series not parrallel(if light beam interrupted circuit would open and not work). Why not just the bean senor(something like it) with relay to kill power. If not that then something else.
Like I said it must be a common problem if the collusion place says he makes money from it happening enough.
