I've removed several old kitchen tiles from the walls over my counters to replace them with new colored ceramic tiles. The white drywall paper came off with the tiles and now there is brown drywall exposed. Before I replace the new tiles using tile adhesive, do I need to seal the drywall with something first?

Welcome to the forums!

I'm no tile expert but would expect the same would be true for tile as it is for painting. The moisture in joint compound or latex paint can disolve the exposed gypsum causing problems. The fix is to 1st coat the area with a solvent based primer. Zinnser's gardz is the only latex primer I'm aware of that will work. Traditionally oil base primer is what was always used.

Thanks... I will try that.
