Just completed a project and had some dirt brought in. It has rained and made the area very muddy. Is it ok to plant grass when it is really wet? There is no standing water, just very soggy dirt. If I wait any longer I am afraid the weeds will stop rearing their ugly heads; which some have already started.

If the area is wet and there is no threat of it continuing to be extremely wet you could seed.If the threat for more significant rain is still there I'd wait because extreme wetness or constant rain will just rot the seed.Damp ground is ok,heavily wet and staying wet ground is not.

That said no matter what this is a bad time to try and establish seed and you have a battle on your hands no matter what the weather does.Hot summer weather is the toughest time to create a yard, fall is far better.

Where you are has some bearing but regardless you are either fighting heat and dryness or too much wetness.

You might be better off focusing on weed control then in late summer or early fall, and timing depends on where you are, back off on weed control to let the weed killer leave the soil then focus on seed establishment.

Thanks for the reply! This summer has been extremely cool where I am in the east, and Im looking for that to continue. So, I dont think heat will be an issue. ALso, it is looking like the rain will be scattered over the next week or so. Ill check the area tonight to see how wet it is. If its dried, maybe Ill go ahead. But, as you said, I dont want the seed to rot!
