I don't know how else to describe it. I tried using a weed but that only works on part of it. How do you cut grass along the fence where the lawn mower can't reach and a weed eater is not able to trim all of it?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I'm sure you meant "weed killer". Well, grass isn't a weed, so results would be minimal. Never tell my wife I recommended this, but using a product like Roundup will get rid of it all. Spray it conservatively at the base of the fence only. Remember it will kill what it touches. Now, the good side.....it is systemic, and doesn't sterilize the ground like diesel fuel would. The grass or weeds will grow back next year. Be careful with all chemicals.
You didn't say what type fence it was, so I am curious as to the type fence a string trimmer won't trim.

I meant I tried to use my weed eater I left out the eater part. I have a black chain link fence. I guess I'm worried about using the weed eater too much on the fence because I don't want the paint to get messed up by the weed eater. The grass is growing up through the links in the fence so it is difficult to get to all of it.

Assuming it is a grass and not a weed an alternative to RoundUp is
Scotts Miracle-Gro (http://www.scotts.com/smg/catalog/productCategorySubSelf.jsp?navAction=jump&itemId=cat10030012&id=cat50036)
Also there are forms of RoundUp with longer lasting effects for season long kill.

Good link. If you use your weed eater at a sharp angle to the bottom of the fence line you won't damage anything except the line on the weed eater. Hit the ground just at the base of the fence to cut a majority of the grass. You should do this on both sides of the fence, and I know the other side belongs to the neighbors, but consider it a community service.

Thanks for all the info. I'll try the weed eater idea first tomorrow and let you all know how it worked. If I can't seem to figure it out I'll try the miracle-gro. I try to stay away from chemicals if I can.
Thanks,

P.S. Tomorrow I get to test my new lawn mower. It's electric and cordless.

Just to clarify, you would be using a Ortho branded product, the grass killer, or RoundUp.Miracle-Gro is a fertilizer. They are all part of the same company,Scott's,but I don't want anyone reading this to think Miracle-Gro will kill anything.(unless you use way too much of it)
