I would like to remove the bendix on an electric sarter on a Tecumseh H60 engine. The dust cover is off. How do I remove the retainer C-clip? Pry it off with a screwdriver?

Also, is there a nice trick to get the retainer back on the armature shaft? Thanks.

Cheers,

Sebulba

You can, or just use a pair of needle nose pliers. Put the needle nose jaws against the ends of the circlip, hold it tight and tap the handle end of the pliers with your palm. When you do this, hold a plastic bag or towel over the clip. When they fly off, they fly off.

To put it back on, line it up on the groove and tap the back of the clip with the plastic handle of a screwdriver.

Thanks marbobj. I'll try the pliers technique this weekend. I wasn't getting very far with the screwdriver.
