I have just finished staining the trim for the doors and windows.
My question is, what do you use to finish with. I don't want a shiny glossy finish. I am looking for a natural finish. What can I use for that and what does tungston oil do?

I rarely do any rubbed oil finishes but I don't think they will work well over stain. I'd suggest using a satin poly or varnish. Waterbased poly has slightly less sheen than oil base.

chichi,

You could use any kind of satin or semi-gloss varnish including polyurethane. They will tend to add a bit of amber tone to what you have. If you don't want to add any tint, then you can use one of the water based acrylics such as Minwax Polycrylic or water based polyurethane. These products have very little oder and they are fast drying.

To be sure, I replaced all the trim in my downstairs seven years ago when I had my windows replaced. I stained with a blend of Minwax stains to get a "gunstock" color, then applied two coats of Polycrylic. It all looks as good today as it did when I applied.
