Hello,
Trying to fix mum's oven that keeps burning everything (Simpson 68-642) . The internal element comes on and never turns off. Seems like a thermostat problem to me. Anyway I can confirm this? The sensor is clearly visible.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Greg

Is it electronic or electromechanical?
electromechanical- most likely the thermostat is bad and replacing it is the best option. I don't know about down under, but in the the US, electromechanical oven stats are not cheap.
electronic- the problem could be the sensor or a problem with the electronic controller. The sensor probes are cheap, the controllers are not. So first off, check the resistance of the sensor and compare it to what it should be at the temperature around it. Your friendly local appliance spares vendor should have a chart and should be willling to check it for you. If the sensor is ok, you've probably got a bad controller.
Let us know how you make out. Thanks.

hi,
wont know until i see them later in the week and do some more probbing. I have been quoted around $100 Australian for the thermostat, which I am happy to pay given that here in oz, it costs that much for a service technician to come for 15 min.
Some extra info which may help diagnose the problem: if i turn the oven to say 200, then the elements turn on and never go off. If I wind the oven temperature dial down to say 180 the oven element will turn off for a while. Then it comes back on and stays there. I suspect that it would be electromechanical given the age of the oven and its appearance i.e. mechanical clock and so on. thanks again for your help.
