What type of vacuum cleaner is appropriate for cleaning my oil burning furnace and where can it be purchased?

The best one to use is a Soot Master made by Mastercraft.
Mastercraft Industries (http://www.mastercraftusa.com/furnace.php)
If you contact them, I'm sure they will be able to tell you where you can buy one in your area. They are not cheap but lots cheaper than blowing soot all over your house because you used a shop vac.

The soot master is also very easy on your ears. I bought one after the first tine I heard one running. sidny
