Hi there. I have a large tv/stereo unit which is unfortunately painted black. Its a great unit so dont want to replace it - just need to change to a lighter colour as i only have a small room and the black is just TOO MUCH!!! How can i go about turning my wonderful (black) unit into a much lighter colour?

I'm assuming it has a gloss shiny finish.clean it very well and be sure there is no cleaner residue, wipe down with mineral spirits then scuff sand with extrafine sandpaper to rough it up and lower the gloss, remove any sanding residue.

Prime with oil based primer.Might need two coats then top coat with oil based enamel of whatever color you want.Use the best grade of enamel you can get.Use two coats if needed.

This is US instruction so modify for Australia as needed.
