Hello,
I have a Frigidaire electric range (model FEFL77AQG) and I am replacing the main heating element in the bottom. When I unscrewed the old one and pulled it out, I noticed that the male electrical plug from the wire inside the oven needs replacing too. My question is what do I do? Do I buy a new connector and crimp it on (what tool--will it be a good enough connection) or do I need to take the back off of the oven and find the other end of the wire and replace the entire wire? Is it just a simple pigtail----of course properly rated wire. Are these able to be purchased?
Thanks!

Welcome to the forums! I should think the plug from the wire inside the oven should be a female unit, while the element is a male. Check me to be sure. On some models, the new plug components are retrofittable, meaning they probably have screw connectors. Have you purchased them, yet?

I suggest taking off the back as a precaution and making ure about the wiring. You won't be able to purchase sections of wiring you'll have to make your own. The appliance parts tores willl have high temp wire and high temp connectors. You'll also need a good quality set of wire crimpers. Don't use pliers, you'll never get the crimp tight enough.

I use the cat no. 1005 tool, the home stores have it but it's not cheap.

I agree with the splices, although I prefer something like the T1715 crimpers over the manual ones. I use a similar and the exothermic weld it gives leaves nothing to the imagination. It won't release until the proper pressure is applied.

Yes Chandler, you are correct---in my question I did mix-up the male and female ends. I did remove the back and I took off the wire. I will be going to an appliance store tomorrow and getting the proper connectors. Just hope someone there has a set of crimpers and will make the connection for me, or I am spending a lot of money for a set! Thanks, I will post again after the job is finished.
