Hi Everyone
I'm in Brooklyn, NY.
The City of New York just planted a tree in front of my house. They dug and prepared a 4' x 6' area for the tree. I would like to plant some flowers or flowering plants ( not too tall & very low maintenance) in the the area beneath the tree.
I'm not a gardener and don't know much about flowers, but I do love to look at them. Please give me some ideas of what I could plant.
Thank you in advance.

I'd suggest you go to a local nursery, or whatever local seller of plants you have, and buy some bedding annuals. impatiens are available in an array of colors, and do well in shade. You could also do pansies, or perhaps petunias. If you want extra low maintenance, you'll have to go with a perrenial which I assume you know comes back year after year. A good perrenial would be phlox, it will flower with an intense color once per year, and outside of that, makes a thick green mat. Hope this helps you and good luck.

Flowers make our life more colorful and more bright! Firstly, when we are in a bad mood you should only have a glance on the flowers in your garden. Secondly flowers can gladden you with their smell! So I am for flower-beds in the home gardens!
